Daniel Radcliffe Reveals the Sweet Way His Girlfriend Erin Darke Help Him Cope With Fame

Daniel Radcliffe quickly rose to fame as a pre-teen by starring in the Harry Potter movies. Outside of his successful Broadway show Merrily We Roll Along, he has been in a serious relationship with Erin Darke, with whom he shares a son.

The actors met on the set of 2013 film Kill Your Darlings, in which the Harry Potter star plays famed poet Allen Ginsberg, while Darke portrays a woman he has a sexual encounter with in a library. The chemistry between the two was immediate. Radcliffe later revealed to People that his on-screen flirting was genuine, emphasizing that he wasn't acting during their scenes together.

Radcliffe and Darke have kept their relationship mostly out of the public eye, only appearing on red carpets together from time to time. The Lost City actor is especially private about his personal life and doesn’t have any social media accounts, while the Good Girls Revolt actress is on the platforms but isn’t active on them.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Radcliffe explained why he thinks he’s been able to stay mostly out of the media. “I think in the years since I’ve been sober, I just don’t do anything interesting enough,” he said. “As an actor, I just want to live my life and see my friends, and I just want the thing people talk about to be the work.”

Whilst he loves his profession, the fame side of things can be hard to deal with. He revealed to The Atlantic how Darke help him deal with fame: “I have learned so much from her about my own boundaries.

"Very occasionally, people will come up to me in the street and be very weird or rude or something like that. And she has given me a sense over the years of: You don’t have to just be nice to everyone when they’re weird with you. She’s given me some sense of my own autonomy, I guess.”

Discussing the challenges of dating a well-known figure and addressing an internet hoax about their relationship, Darke told Vulture, "Dating a famous person teaches you very quickly that s--- is weird sometimes. People are weird with fame sometimes. You do start to dismiss things you read about your partner if you're pretty sure they're not true."
