Jennifer Lawrence impressed audiences as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games trilogy, a gripping story about survival in a televised competition where two teenagers from each district are chosen to fight to the death. The No Hard Feelings star, however, wasn’t the only actress in consideration for the portrayal of Katniss. She was being challenged by Hailee Steinfeld.
Hailee Steinfeld was a strong contender for the role of Katniss in "The Hunger Games," but Jennifer Lawrence ultimately won the part. However, in a 2019 interview, Steinfeld confidently stated that she had made up for that missed opportunity in her career.
Hailed Steinfeld Was Almost Katniss Everdeen
Hailee Steinfeld spoke with The Independent on losing out on the iconic role of Katniss Everdeen in the Hunger Games movie to Jennifer Lawrence.
‘Don’t bring that up!’ was Hailee’s first response to the subject when it was addressed in a new interview.
When asked: ‘Do you ever look back?’ Hailee then interrupted and said:
‘And think what my life would have been like? No! Not at all!’
“I truly believe everything happens for a reason. There are so many parts that I wanted or didn’t get … But I think, weirdly, it’s the same feeling of having missed every high school dance and prom, and yet I somehow found my way to the Met Gala. I feel like I’ve made up for it.”
Hailee Steinfeld Is Kate Bishop These Days
Hailee has done well in her career despite facing an early setback. At 14, she was nominated for an Oscar for her role in True Grit. In 2016, she had a UK top 5 hit with her song "Starving," which she made with Zedd. Today, she plays Kate Bishop in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and voices Gwen Stacy in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. She also voices Vi in Netflix's Arcane, showing her talent and versatility.
Jeremy Renner, who plays Barton in Hawkeye, notes how he and Steinfeld developed a bond in the same fashion as their “problem-solving” characters. (Via The Hollywood Reporter)
“When there was a problem or an issue, we found solutions instead of focusing on the problem,” Renner says. “And that happened very, very early on. So it obviously continued, and it was great ,to have an ally to move through any obstacles because there’s going to be a ton when it comes to this kind of stuff.”
