Drew Barrymore’s Troubled Past Is The Reason She’s Now Scared Of Plastic Surgery

Drew Barrymore has truly established herself as one of Hollywood’s most cherished stars! At just 49, she has captivated audiences with her unforgettable performances in iconic films like “50 First Dates,” “Never Been Kissed,” and “The Wedding Singer.”

The Hollywood actress overcame a turbulent upbringing marked by addiction and personal challenges. While she’s now in a much better place and thriving in both her career and personal life, those issues from the past still appear to haunt aspects of her life, as she revealed that the reason she’s not been able to try plastic surgery is because she’s afraid she’ll become obsessed with it.

She told Glamour: “I have an extremely addictive personality,” says Drew, openly. “I’ve never done heroin,” she comments, referring to her misspent youth, “and I don’t want to get plastic surgery because I feel like they’re both very slippery slopes. I feel if I try either, I’m going to be dead really soon.”

“I have a highly addictive personality, so I worry I’d continue to chase it, get this and that done,” she says. “That scares me, just because of my own approach to things. So, I’m waiting on making any alterations.”

She does, however, enjoy using cosmetics and trying out various hairdos and color schemes. The Poison Ivy star acknowledged that she “does not know [her] real color” anymore due to her extensive hair coloring regimen.

Barrymore, who shares her two daughters with her ex-husband Will Kopelman, believes that growing older is a blessing, and says aging isn’t anything to stress out over.

“It means you’re alive, you’re living, and that’s a really good thing. Embracing aging is such positive, healthy messaging.” Plus, she says that having good health really is the main goal, above all else.

Drew Barrymore Troubled Past

Barrymore has been very candid throughout her life about her struggles, which started early when she became addicted to drugs at just 12 years old.

As a part of Demi Lovato’s 2024 documentary Child Star, Drew opened up about the first time she did drugs.

“I used to get high with my mum’s friend at like 10,” she shared. “And I thought she was so cool, she would give weed to me and her son.”

It led to her legally divorcing her parents at 14. By 15 she had been shunned by Hollywood, and ended up being married and divorced twice before by her mid-20s.

She revealed in 2017 that at one point, she was certain she would be dead before ever reaching her 30s, let alone her 40s.

“I really had a fear that I was going to die at 25,” she told The Guardian. “But no matter how dark s**t got, I always had a sense that there should be goodness. I never went all the way into darkness. There were so many things I could have done that would have pushed me over the edge and I just knew not to go there.”

Thankfully, Barrymore eventually found her feet, and went on to return to A-list status before carving a new career for herself as an internationally beloved chat show host.
