It’s an undeniable fact that high-achieving people are immensely self-driven. They are willing to push the boundary and go the extra mile to fulfill their dreams and aspirations.

We all desire success, and we all want to be remarkable at what we do, but it takes a significant amount of hard work and self-discipline to be able to pursue anything worth doing. It will take passion, purpose, perseverance, and a sheer desire for success.

Here are 5 ways to fuel your drive for success.

1. Keep your eyes on the prize.

Ask yourself why must I go after this dream even if it seems like the odds are against me? What’s at stake, what’s the prize?

What will happen if you don’t go after this dream, goal, or aspiration? Where are you going to be in life? Adrift? Aimless? Imagine how that is going to make you feel.

Just like the saying goes, “The most important thing is to remember the most important thing”. You need to keep your eyes on the prize always to remain motivated to pursue It.

2.  Understand your primary motivations.

When do you feel the need to go after those dreams of yours the most? What is that which increases your desire for success? Is it reading a particular book: biographies, stories, interviews, personal development books, etc.? Watching a particular movie, listening to some inspiring and motivating speeches or songs? Going to certain places, hanging around certain people, etc.?

Also, are you motivated by a particular feeling? Fear, competition, freedom, security, accomplishment, etc.?

By understanding the activities, environment, or feelings that inspire or motivate you, you can use them to increase your inner drive.

3.  Declutter your mind.

There are countless thoughts clamoring for your attention. A habit of decluttering helps removes the mental junk that depletes your energy. It can restore your focus and clarity and make you more decisive when it comes to making decisions for your goals and dreams.

You can declutter your mind by prioritizing goals, getting some sleep, meditating, journaling, etc.

4. Reminisce on your past achievements.

Go back to when you did something you thought you couldn’t do, when you last achieved something you were proud of. Remember how great those milestones felt? Now think about it, how would you feel when you achieve what you are working towards? How would it raise your self-worth and self-esteem?

By reminiscing on your past achievements, you can build the passion and self-belief needed to take on even bigger goals.

5.  Remind yourself, nothing good comes easy.

Famed Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling was at one time homeless and penniless, she was rejected 12 times, but look where she is now.

It took 5 years and 5,126 failed prototypes for James Dyson to develop the world’s first bagless vacuum cleaner. Ten years later, Dyson set up his manufacturing facility because other manufacturers wouldn’t produce his vacuum. Now he has the best-selling vacuum in the world and is worth over $12 billion.

The most important thing is to learn from failure and keep on chasing your dreams and never giving up. One day, you will achieve them and, when you do, the ecstasy will make all the agony so worthwhile.
