Life has so much to offer, and there’s so much possibilities you can create if you believe you can. It doesn’t matter where you are, you can change your life or steer it in the direction you want by doing certain things today. Because your future depends on what you focus and practice today.

Most people know what they want and the type of life they want to live but haven’t asked themselves one crucial question – who do I need to become, to live the life I always wanted? What kind of qualities, emotions and experiences would I like have on my journey? Here are 7 things that if you do today, your future self will thank you for.

1. Investing in yourself

“Formal education will make you a living, self-education will make you a fortune.” — Jim Rohn

It can be easy to get lost in work, and not take time to continually invest in yourself. However you need to make conscious efforts to grow yourself mentally, physically, spiritually and in every other way.

By taking time to constantly build your confidence, knowledge, self-esteem and skills, you are putting yourself in a position to be able to more in the nearby future.

2. Taking responsibility for your life and future

To be able to get to where you want to be, you need to actually take control of your life and stop blaming others. Begin by asking yourself: What legacy do I want to leave behind as a person? Then start working towards it.

Most people have excuses, or need to blame others when things aren’t working out. True success however happens when you take responsibility and don’t make excuses. By taking responsibility for the type of information you listen, the types of friends you keep, the types of places you go to, you can actively take control of your life and creating the type of life you want.

3. Being flexible and learning to let go

In life, you will encounter several challenges, setbacks and heartbreaks which would want to weigh you down but you shouldn’t let it. The reason is everyone encounter challenges, eventhough yours might seem peculiar, you have to learn to let go of want a better future.

Holding on to pain doesn’t fix anything. Replaying the past over and over again doesn’t change it, and wishing things were different doesn’t make it so.

Deciding to hold on to the past will hold you back from creating a strong sense of self — a self that isn’t defined by your past, but rather by who you want to be.

4. Learning to adapt

Here’s a simple truth: Nothing lasts forever. Times change, priorities changes, business changes etc.

Change can come into our lives as a result of a crisis, as a result of choice or just by chance. In either situation, we are all faced with having to make a choice – do we make the change or not?

Being able to spot opportunities and manage situations for our advantage is a crucial survival skills and one that can help us achieve our goals. When faced with a situation, try looking for ways to go round it. Think of new ways to solve people, try practicing new skills you previously ignore and see how it all can be used to help you achieve your dreams.

5. Taking care of your body so that you always feel your best.

Health problems, even minor ones, can interfere with or even overshadow other aspects of your life. Health problems can make daily tasks more challenging, create financial stress, and even jeopardize your ability to earn a living.

Start eating right. Get enough sleep and find a fitness habit that works for you. You can also start reading a health blog.

A healthy body allows you to get the most out of life. So invest in a healthier you and open yourself up to all kinds of happy experiences!

6. Loving yourself and believing in yourself irrespective of what others think

To achieve something significant, you have to be fearless in pursuit of what you want to achieve. And even if nobody believes in what you’re doing, you have to do what it takes to make it happen—you have to be determined, and you have to have tenacity.

Success is mainly a result habits and even if you’ve been lucky, it will be a matter of time before you begin to decline if you’ve not cultivated the right habits and work ethics.

7. Hanging around the right people

Do the people around you drag you down? Do they make you doubt your abilities? Or do they always agree with your ideas… and never seem to have new ones? Then it’s possible you’re surrounded with people who will not help you become successful.

I can’t stress this enough, but I will leave you with the wisdom of Jim Rohn “you’re the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” Start considering the type of people you spend time with and the type of places you go, if you want to create your dream life.
