Rebel Wilson declared 2020 her “year of health” on Instagram and shared her specific weight loss goals. She ended up losing almost 80 pounds.

In a recent appearance on The Ellen Show to promote her new movie, Senior Year, the actress revealed the reason she decided to lose weight and become healthier.

“I was turning 40 and then like looking into fertility stuff, and the doctor looked me up and down and said, you know, it’ll be better if you were healthier, and I kind of felt like, I’m fine, you know, I love being a bigger girl and playing fat Amy like one of my characters from Pitch Perfect, it was really fun… And then I was like…well secretly, maybe I was being unhealthy at times… and so I decided in 2020, yup, that’s gonna be my year of health, and I did it very publicly on Instagram and lost…like 80 pounds.”

The actress previously shared in an interview with the U.K. morning show BBC Breakfast last December, that she received “a lot of pushback” from her management team, which didn’t understand why she would want to lose weight “because I was earning millions of dollars being the funny, fat girl.”

“I said, ‘OK, I’m going to do this year of health, I feel like I’m going to really physically transform and change my life,'” she said. “And they were like, ‘Why? Why would you want to do that?'”

Wilson went on to say that her decision to start a new fitness regime was all about improving her health.

“Even though I was still very confident being bigger, and you know, would walk a red carpet, even though I was probably double the size, sometimes triple the weight, of other actresses, but like, I still felt confident in that,” she said

“But I knew deep down inside, some of the emotional eating behaviours I was doing [were] not healthy.

The actress has also revealed that she’s received a lot of attention since making her transformation after previously feeling “invisible”.

“Sometimes being bigger, people didn’t necessarily look twice at you. And now that I’m in a good shape, like, people offer to carry my groceries to the car and hold doors open for you. I was like, ‘Is this what other people experienced all the time?’” She said.
