Ashton Kutcher says he stood awkwardly around Reese Witherspoon on the 'Your Place or Mine' red carpet to prevent affair rumors

Ashton Kutcher and Reese Witherspoon attracted heaps of attention online earlier this week after photos from the premiere of their new Netflix rom-com, Your Place or Mine, went viral.

During an appearance on the Chicks in the Office podcast, Kutcher addressed the awkward photos. In a variety of pics, Kutcher maintained a straight face while standing beside a smiling Witherspoon. He also kept his hands in his pockets.

“Here’s the thing: If I put my arm around her, and was like all friendly with her, I’d be having an affair with her,” Kutcher explained. “Like, the rumor would be that I’m having an affair with her.”

Witherspoon also addressed the awkward snaps. She revealed that his wife Mila Kunis texted her about their lack of chemistry. “[Kunis] even emailed us last night,” Witherspoon said to Today hosts last week. “She goes, ‘You guys look so awkward on the red carpet together.’

The “Morning Show” actress also noted that she knew Kunis, 39, long before she and Kutcher ever met.

“I’m better friends with Mila because I had known her for a very long time,” Witherspoon explained. “It was just fun to get to know her significant other because I’ve loved her for so long.

Despite their lack of chemistry on the red carpet, the two stars had a good time working together on the Netflix picture.

“He’s so professional,” Witherspoon said of Kutcher. “He’s the funniest guy. I mean, such a goofball. We had so much fun and every time he’d wear a funny outfit I’d text Mila, like, ‘What is he wearing?’”

Ashton also sang Witherspoon’s praises on Chicks in the Office, revealing he enjoyed every moment. “She’s such a badass,” the Punk’d alum said. “She has such a presence…she has so much range, she can do drama, she can do comedy, she can do everything. She’s such a movie star.”

Aline Brosh McKenna (27 Dresses, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) wrote and directed Your Place or Mine which stars Witherspoon and Kutcher as Debbie and Peter, two best friends who are polar opposites. She’s an accountant with a son living in Los Angeles, and he is a marketing exec and aspiring writer living in New York. When the two decide to swap homes and schedules for a week, they realize that what’s missing from their lives might just be each other, naturally.
