Iggy Azalea says she left her 'toxic' relationship with Playboi Carti because it reminded her of her mom and dad's 'volatile' relationship

Iggy Azalea recently opened up about splitting from Atlanta rapper Playboi Carti in a new interview on Emily Ratajkowski’s High Low with EmRata podcast.

“Like, right after I had my son, I left his father,” she told Ratajkowski. “Something happened one day with my son’s father and me and it was just one of those moments where you’re just like, ‘I didn’t wake up thinking this is what my day would be.’ But by the end of the day, I was on a plane to Los Angeles and I never went back and that was the end of it.”

Azalea did not elaborate on the incident that forced her go, but she did say it reminded her of her own childhood home.

“My father and my mother had such a volatile relationship that I wish I had seen less of it,” she added. “And so that was what happened to me in that moment that I had on that day.”

“I was like, ‘I will never let my son see this,’ because I don’t want him to see someone talk to me this way too, because I don’t want him to ever learn this, I don’t want him to be exposed to this,” said Azalea. “And even though I felt that I was in a bit of toxic cycle — a lot of a toxic cycle with the person — I’m accountable for ways that I participate in it.”

“I just felt I had to be more accountable to myself into what I’m doing with my child, and even if there are days where I wanna go back to this, I just never would do it. I will never do it.”

Two years after they first began dating exclusively, Azalea gave birth to her child with Carti in 2020. The Australian-born musician has repeatedly called Carti out over the years, most notably accusing him with skipping their son’s first Christmas holiday because he was cheating on her.

Iggy also spoke about why she chose to join OnlyFans, despite previously saying she would never sign up for the platform.

“I’ve made a lot of people so much money off my body, and I got the smallest cut off my own fucking body,” she said. “And my own work, and my own ideas.”

The project Azalea was referring to is a “mixed media project” called “Hotter Than Hell,” which she announced in January and said will include photos, videos, and merchandise.
